Short, task-based instructions for reviewing a shared TracePoint map.01Open a TracePoint map
- Export a Mobile KMZ from the TracePoint desktop application.
- Open this website on the phone or computer that will be used for review.
- Select Open KMZ Map and choose the exported .kmz or .kml file.
- Wait for the map and TracePoint Map Controls to appear.
02Open a KMZ on an iPhone
- Save the KMZ in the iPhone Files app or an accessible email attachment.
- Open the Mobile Viewer in Safari and select Open KMZ Map.
- Choose Browse, locate the KMZ in Files, and select it. The picker intentionally shows all files because iOS may identify a KMZ as a ZIP or generic document.
- The viewer checks the selected filename and opens only KMZ or KML map files.
- The map is processed in Safari; it is not uploaded to this website.
03Filter the displayed timeframe
- Open TracePoint Map Controls and find Display Span.
- Choose a recent span such as four hours, one day, or seven days.
- Choose Custom Timeframe to set exact beginning and ending times.
- The pings, trace trail, Location Data table, and provider accuracy areas follow the displayed span.
04Review provider accuracy areas
- Turn on Provider Accuracy Areas under Map Layers.
- Use Accuracy-Area Transparency to keep streets and POIs visible beneath the areas.
- An accuracy area represents provider-reported uncertainty; it does not prove that the device was at every place inside the area.
- Tap an area or its associated ping to review the available details.
05Use playback
- Set the Display Span before beginning playback.
- Select Play to begin with the first displayed ping and reveal later pings sequentially.
- Use Previous or Next for one-ping review, and adjust Speed as needed.
- Select Stop to end playback and display all pings in the selected span.
06Use labels and Location Data
- Show Ping Numbers when sequence numbers are useful.
- Choose how many recent Ping Time Labels should remain visible.
- Show POI Labels independently from ping numbers.
- Open Location Data and select a row to center that ping and open its details.
07Show the viewer’s location
- Turn on Show My Current Location and approve the browser permission request.
- A green marker and accuracy area show the phone or computer’s reported location.
- Use this only as an orientation aid; consumer-device location accuracy can vary.
- Turn the option off to remove the marker. The location is not saved by this website.
KMZ and KML files are read in the browser. Refreshing or closing the page clears the opened map. Basemap tiles and device-location permission require internet access.
